This is just a quick one an pretty handy too.

I hate having to put in the server name, my username and password all the time. In the interests of efficiency (some call it laziness, I like to think of it as efficient!), here is today’s time saver.

The easy bit, create a shortcut to Virtual Center. This can of course be done multiple times for multiple servers.

Modify the properties of the Virtual Center shortcut as follows:
"C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher\VpxClient.exe" -passthroughAuth -s THEINTENDED.SERVER

The login will always be to the THEINTENDED.SERVER but will take the authentication credentials from my current login session. The only gotcha is that each server has to have my current windows login name setup as a user on it.

Additional shortcut parameters include:
-u username Force the username
-p password Force the password

This allows me to create per target shortcuts for different ESX/Virtual Center servers. Of course, let’s ignore the MASSIVE security problem of storing sensitive passwords in an unencrypted and largely unsafe fashion.
